I should probably write a compare and contrast about Magnepans sometime, which are magnetostatic (a.k.a., isodynamic, quasi-ribbon, or planar magnetic), rather than electrostatic. Although both are planar, the balance of attributes is different. In short, where JansZens provide a wider frequency spectrum, a higher proportion of recorded vs. room ambiance in the listening area (you-are-there experience), sharper imaging, and more accurate transient response, Magnepans provide a more spacious, they-are-here sound, and a huge presentation.
More to come, maybe
